It was the summer of 1968 in London when Yuri Dojc became a cancelled Czech. The Russian tanks were rolling into Prague and Yuri's status as a "summer student" was amended to "refugee". The Canadian consulate nearby looked friendly and welcoming and so, with dreams of freedom and opportunity, Dojc landed in Toronto with six dollars in his pocket.
A little over two decades later, Dojc has become a major player on the photographic stage. He is celebrated for his bold, dramatic commercial work and is increasingly attracting attention for his sensitive black and white personal studies, a sampling recently published as "Marble Woman", as well as his surrealistically humorous kitch collection of color fantasies called "The American Dream". His fine art posters and prints grace the walls of private collectors and galleries around the world. His work has been featured in publications such as Communication Arts (USA), Blad (Netherlands), Fotografie (Czechoslovakia), Kodak International (USA), Applied Arts, and Photo Life (Canada).
